This Traditional Mahie embraces the breathtaking precision and formal elegance of classical Persian city weaving. The expansive field showcases a spectacularly dense, mesmerizing layout known as the Heratie or "Mahi" (fish) pattern, characterized by repeating rosettes framed by sweeping, fish-like leaves. This intricate tapestry is woven across a deeply saturated, inviting foundation of rich rust red. The relentless, rhythmic detail of the field is masterfully contrasted by a luminous, exquisitely detailed central medallion in soft ivory and light blue, mirrored by prominent corner spandrels in deep navy blue. A beautifully structured, multi-banded floral border perfectly frames the monumental piece. The incredibly sturdy, densely packed wool pile creates a substantial, highly tactile canvas that effortlessly brings historical grandeur, formal symmetry, and timeless sophistication to grand living spaces.

Hand-woven in 100% premium wool, this rug offers an exceptionally durable, steadfast foundation with a rich, comforting presence underfoot. Measuring a magnificent, nearly square 12′0″ × 13′3″, it serves as a stunning, highly functional anchor for grand formal dining rooms, expansive living areas, or luxurious master suites, bringing incredibly detailed botanical beauty and unparalleled hand-made craftsmanship to the heart of the home.

About this Weave

The Mahie (or Mahi) design, translating to "fish" in Persian, is one of the most revered and recognizable patterns in traditional Oriental weaving. Historically originating in the city of Herat (hence its other name, the Herati pattern), it typically features a central rosette surrounded by four sweeping, serrated leaves that beautifully resemble fish swimming in a pond. When woven in fine city workshops, such as those in Tabriz, this motif is repeated with incredibly dense, hypnotic precision across the entire field. The resulting masterpieces offer an exceptionally formal, highly detailed foundation perfectly suited for adding striking architectural pattern, historical depth, and sophisticated character to the grandest areas of today's refined interiors.
