Care Guide
Rug Care Guide
Simple, museum-informed guidance to help your rug look beautiful for decades.
Vacuuming & Dusting
Vacuum weekly with low suction and a brushless head. For fringes, use a soft handheld brush. Dusting before washing preserves pile and dye.
Spills & Stains
Blot immediately with white towels. For water-soluble spills, dab with cool water and mild pH-neutral soap; rinse and blot dry. Avoid rubbing or heat.
Pads & Placement
Use a high-quality pad to add cushion, prevent slip, and reduce wear. Choose felt + rubber for hard floors; felt for large rugs over carpet.
Sunlight & Fading
Rotate seasonally and use window coverings. Natural dyes mellow gracefully; rotation keeps tones even.
Moths & Storage
Keep rugs clean and in use. For storage, roll with pile inward and wrap in breathable tyvek or cotton (not plastic). Inspect quarterly for activity.
Questions, answered
What if a pet accident happens?
Blot thoroughly and rinse with cool water. Avoid enzymes/oxy products on wool or silk. Contact us for a deep wash to fully remove odor.
Can I use a beater bar?
We don’t recommend it for handwoven rugs; it can break fibers and fringe. Use suction only or a brushless head.
